driveing along seemed like transmission went out had nothing pulled over truck died wouldnt start towed it shop said flywheel is warped its home now how can i tell if thats so

That really makes no sense at all. If a flywheel warped, it would just be an additional part to a much bigger problem with the clutch. Automatic or manual transmission? Agree with Hammer. Warped flywheel won't cause an engine stall while driving. Loren SW Washington

Mark; The two symptoms, flex-plate damaged and engine dying, are a bit puzzling. I'll have to check, but I don't think that year of Ford used a reluctor wheel on the flex-plate that gives the crank sensor a signal. It is quite common for flex-plates to crack around the hub area where they are bolted to the crankshaft. Usually, will cause quite a vibration, and sometimes noise. But unless the flex-plate broke away from the crankshaft, I don't understand how that would affect the transmission. I'll have to think on that one. Loren SW Washington

Mark; I should have asked sooner; Do you have any trouble codes? Have you checked for spark during crank? Fuel pressure? I'm still looking, but don't see a reluctor wheel on the flex-plate. Can't find the torque convertor, yet, but I doubt it will have one, either....OH, one more question....is this the 3.0L or 4.0L engine? Loren SW Washington
