The car is in drive when this happens obviously but acts as if it is in neutral

That sounds like a transmission issue of some kind. I'm moving this to the trans section so our trans expert will see it.

Sounds like something happened to overdrive or 4th gear, when this happens either pull iy down into 3rd if you can or cancell the overdrive to see if it pulls in 3rd. Tip, when you check the trans fluid on these it must be in neutral car running. What is the year, make and model? if the car is in the u.s you can even post your vin number so i can i.d the trans. Re: 95 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE REVVING Sign In

Hello,
Let me ask you this, does the car seem like its shifting when you start off from a stop, do you feel the 1-2 shift or the 2-3 shift or does it seem like its not shifting maybe just staying in one gear and revving out at 50 mph. Gary
The transmission in your jeep is called the AW4 or A340E, the tps (throttle position sensor) goes bad alot on these jeeps and would keep it from shifting. Gary

Yes! I feel the shift from the start. its a big difference as the car kind if jumps to the next gear.

Would you say that it shifts late?

Ok, so basically when it goes to make a 3-4 shift, it goes into neutral? Gary

Re: 95 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE REVVING Sign In

Hello.
Did you ever run this trans low on fluid? Do you have an overdrive cancell button on the shifter, if you do when it revs out hit the overdrive cancell button which will knock it back to 3rd and see if it holds. This is to me an uncommon problem, historically theses transmissions are very good. Gary

Re: 95 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE REVVING Sign In

One thing that you should check under the hood, there should be a cable going from the throttle body to the trans, make sure the cable is still hooked up. Gary
