I own a 1995 Saturn SL1, 4 cylinder, automatic, 19,000 miles. When changing gears, ONLY from drive/park/neutral to reverse, the car rolls forward and won't automatically reverse without having to step on the gas. Once I step on the gas the car kicks back really hard and makes a loud noise. I took it to a mechanic and he said it may be the transmission fluid or the fluid tank. I had it checked, and all the fluid levels are fine and the tank that holds the fluid is fine. I went to get a second opinion from another mechanic, and he suggested it to be the transmission mount. He checked that and it wound up all the mounts were fine.

It's very possible that you could have some clutch problems that require higher pressure to stay applied. You really need to get it looked at by a trans expert. These other shops are just trying to sell you something they are capable of performing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The two things that cause this problem are a loose input shaft nut or a sticking pressure regulator in the valve body. Checking the input shaft nut is fairly easy, remove the end cover and the toque is 111 foot pounds (if loose you need a new nut). The hard part is finding the socket that fits the nut (23 mm 12 point) and holding the input shaft while checking the torque without the factory tool. If it is tight you need to replace the valve body.
