96 Blazer rebuild Sign In

1996 Chevy Blazer
4.3 liter
4x4

The 3rd and 4th clutch plates on my Blazer are burnt up so I need to get my transmission rebuilt. A friend of mine works for a transmission shop and said he'll rebuild it for just the price of parts, no labor. He quoted me between $800-$1100. Does that sound right?

Re: 96 Blazer rebuild Sign In

http://www.autozone.com/...artTypeResultSet.htm Guess that depends totally on what will be replaced. A basic rebuild kit is $188.99 - plenty of other items might be needed. This takes tools, labor and the place to be able to do it and plenty of know how. Kitchen counters don't make for good domestic relationships with thisMad

Just check out the link above and see all the related items that could be needed. Hard to put an exact price on a job like this,

first of all....

if he's a friend,he does it for the price of BEER....lol

i agree with tom ,hard to say but if it needs hard parts,it can get real costly....especially if theres metal throughout
the unit....

He has his own garage with all the lifts and tools to do the job. I checked the website and it came up to $186.99, much less than what he quoted me. Does $800 sound right for the job at hand?

Re: 96 Blazer rebuild Sign In

Doesn't sound so much like this friend is doing this for the cost of parts now does it? What was to be replaced with the quote you got. In fact if you aren't on page with this deal at all from the looks of it. The $800 would be a good price for a nice job even if some profit was in there. Your call,

T

Re: 96 Blazer rebuild Sign In

I talked to him again today and he said that he is going to completely rebuild the transmission. So for $800 I think I am just going to let him work on it. Thanks for all your input.

And for the record, he is a really good friend of mine.
