I have a 1997 Grand Caravan 3.3 Liter that does not shift into first, Once the car warms up the damn thing shifts and runs fine the rest of the day. I have replaced everything possible shift sensor, the solnoid pack, fluid and filter, Any thing I could have missed?

Question, Do you have a good scanner like snap-on? I would like to know the C.V.I's(clutch volume index)that would be under data. One thing that comes to mind for this 2nd gear start is, there is a valve in the valvebody called the soleniod switch valve, when the valve is in one position it will give you first, in another postion will give you lock up, if this valve is hanging when the valvebody is cold in a partly stroked position you may have 2nd gear starts. There are also bore plugs same valve train that float in the bore as well, these plugs tend to stick or cock in the bore causing this problem as well. Just seems like a valve is hanging in the bore when cold but ok when hot. Gary The last time i had a problem like this i disassembled a valvebody put it in my freezer to find the stuck valve.

Hello, This valve is in the valvebody, called solenoid switch valve and the bore plugs(should be 3 of them in a row) the valve has to be free free free. I use brushes to clean the bore until the valves falls into the bore under it owns weight. If you know someone with a scanner it would be nice to know what the C.V.I's are for this trans. Please let me know how it goes. Gary
