Auto transmission clunk when downshifting from 4th to 3rd Sign In

Hi,
I've just purchased a Nissan Pathfinder 2006, V6 Petrol - Auto Transmission model.
I've noticed that after 30mins driving it starts making a clunking noise when downshifting from 4th to 3rd when slowing down. It sounds pretty bad and not sure if its going to destroy my transmission. It also jerks when changing from first to second if you slowly increase speed up to the second gear change. This issue is better when warm and if you quickly rev up to the second gear change it normally changes more smoothly.
I have just had my transmission flushed, filter changed and gasket replaced as an attempt to resolve the issue however its still occurring.
Has anyone experienced this before, any ideas what might be causing it?

Are there any codes present? Check engine light on?. Also, how did the fluid look, (not sure if your car is in the u.s), these pathfinders have a big problem of the radiators going bad and water getting into the trans. Gary

I'm based in Australia. Unfortunately no codes are showing for the transmission. I've got these two codes at the moment however not related (I don't think). The pathfinder had a factory transmission oil cooler fitted and looked like it had been there for a while. The transmission cooler was leaking so I replaced the radiator and oil cooler. When the mechanic checked the fluid a couple of weeks ago the colour was good, after I replaced the radiator and trans cooler I took it back to the mechanic for a transmission flush and he said there was water in the sump and the fluid was a bit milky. I'm hoping the transmission hasn't been affected by the coolant leak and feel its positive that it had a factory trans cooler installed however not sure when it was fitted.

Another forum said to check for sticky shift solenoids or trans/motor mounts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello,
Knowing the fact that water has entered the trans, thats never a good thing. Eventually it will have to be done. Also, with this trans the transmission computer is inside the unit bolted to the valvebody. At this point the only thing you really can try are solenoids, possibly mechanically stuck, but the fact that water was inside, it could be affecting the trans computer. I dont believe this is a mount problem. Gary(greetings from new york)
This trans is call RE5RO1A
