Best way to approach clutch job on a Hyundai Tiburon? Sign In

I have a:
2006 Hyundai Tiburon - 2.7L V6 DOHC (Delta) with 240k on the odometer.

I'm a bit weary of doing the clutch on this vehicle. I've never worked on a Hyundai other than doing basic service and maintenance. I own an auto shop, but when I get jobs like this I usually just send it to the dealer. I was formally trained to work on Honda, Toyota, and their expensive sister companies.

I got a hold of a manual for my Tiburon, it wants me to drop the subframe in order to pull the motor and remove the transmission to do the clutch. Other than that, its really vague on how to do the job. I read online from some of the tuner guys that its very easy to screw this up and if you do, you can destroy the engine.

My intention is to do the clutch and replace the entire timing system. Does anyone know of an easier/ easy way to do this job, or have any experience and tips before I do this?

Or should I pull the subframe and hope I don't screw this up?
Honda's and Toyotas are really straight-forward when it comes to these types of jobs, but this one is a bit scary lol

Your asking us if your qualified and competent to do heavy jobs like those? If you have been working in the automotive industry as a professional, why couldn't you do it?

Have you ever done timing belts and/or clutch jobs on Honda or Toyota? If so, they are pretty much all the same. What kind of service information are you working with?

Our shop doesn't get very many Tibs in the shop, but was reviewing the service information myself and noticed they have you removing the transaxle and engine as a unit. Something isn't right there. Why can't you put a T bar on the engine and drop the transaxle out the bottom on a transmission jack while the vehicle is up on a lift. Sometimes you can get away with doing things using shortcuts. What is in the way down there to keep the transaxle from coming out. Probably got the frame rail right up next to the transaxle case, so you can't pull it back and down.

Have you looked at the automatic transmission removal procedure? They don't have you removing the engine to get it out....hmmmm

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

If he's already doing a clutch it sounds like dropping the combo would be the easiest way to tackle both jobs at once.
