Car Won't Go in Drive Due to Engine Overheating Sign In

On my way home from work, the engine on my 2007 Buick Lucerne started sputtering whenever I'd press the gas pedal after coming to a complete stop. Then in front of a red light, the car wouldn’t move at all despite the engine revving up when I pressed the gas as a result of the engine overheating, so I ended up having to put the car in neutral to park it at a gas station across the street and called a tow truck to get it home. The car can still go in reverse but not in drive. The Coolant Temperature Low Indication Light also comes on.

I don't know what you are expecting to happen here. You cooked the engine to the point that it would not run any further which it sounds like also did transmission damage.

I don't think this is going to be a DIY repair. Have it towed to a competent shop and see what they find. You could be looking at a new motor and transmission by driving it that far.

Hello, If by chance your engine is ok, but your car will still not move forward that is because the 1-2 band is broken, this will happen suddenly and not affect reverse, this is a very common problem with this trans. Gary
