Hi everybody happy new year this is a 2004 civic 1.7 automatic transmission when the shifter is selected d or r the car don't move at all what should we check before we condom the trani

Hello,
Make sure the trans is full of fluid and make sure the axles are ok(if you cant push the car in park , your axles should be ok). Gary

Hello I just did what you told me to try, the transmission fluid is ok and when I try to push the car while it's on park it doesn't move, does this indicate the trani is gone. do you think a rebuild one is more preferable than the salvage yard one. again thank you and God bless you.

Hello,
ok, one more question i forgot to ask, with the car running and you shift into drive or reverse, then shift it back to park, do you hear any ratching niose? and when you move the shift around(rev, neu, drive) the shifter feels ok, just want to make sure the shift cable is not broken. Gary

thank you, when I put the shifter to D the car moves very slow but most of the time it don't same when I put it to R and there is wining noise at the transmission

I forgot to let you know, yes like you said when I move the shifter from D to park there is noise, it sounds like chooock.

Its very possible the whining noise your hearing is a clogged filter, is the noise there in all ranges? when you rev the engine does the pitch of the noise change?

Ya the noise is continous and pitching noise it's coming from inside the trani. What options do you think I have here. Thanks

At this point i would go by way of rebuilt not used, the OE honda clutches for the clutch packs are no good, they flake off clogg the filter(which is not sevicable)and burn the trans out. A company makea a new clutch called GPX, these dont flake off like the OE honda clutch.
Very Very important tip, when you have the trans rebuilt, the heat exchanger(which is located in the radiator) Must be flushed out til clean, if the "cooler is not flushed than all the stuff thats in there gets back into the trans. Other option is to change out the radiator with a new one.
I have a flush machine where i can see how clean the cooler is. Gary (i got 2 in my shop today, i do at least one honda a week)

Hi there it has been so long, just want to let you know we have replaced the transmission and the car is running OK. thank you for the help. but I have a question for you what is the best method to find out a transmission with bad bearing, how does the car act if it has a bad transmission bearing, thank you and God bless.

evob07: Been a few weeks and sure Gary will be by but have to ask why you are asking about symptoms of a bad transmission bearing now instead of what you notice now?
There's a lot going on in a drivetrain that uses bearings and may NOT be the transmission itself. In general bad bearing of assorted types start off as a noise and by the time you can feel something (any bearing anywhere in the car) it's wildly bad.
There are so many types of noises and symptoms better if you said what you notice or hear than ask what possible symptoms,
