Cherokee transmission pan stuck Sign In

1996 Cherokee sport 4X4 transmission pan will not come off due to dipstick tube (who engineered this thing?) being attached to the pan. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated, I need this car working soon. Thanks

Yea that's a great design.....

That is a 2 piece design. Get a can of PB Blaster and spray at joint area really well & twist it as much as you can..... There is an o ring in there and once you get some lube on it, it should come out a lot easier.................

PB Blaster.....accept no substitutes........

Thanks for the advice. I needed the truck asap so I looked around and found another forum where a group of cherokee owners were complaining that the joint is almost impossible to remove so I took a tubing cutter and cut right through it and I reattached it with a tight fitting hose and clamps. Its a little ghetto but its not leakingSmile

LOL....Hey whatever works.....right?

It's a crappy design. I wish I had that option but that would never fly where I'm at.

Actually what you did should work fine. It's high enough up where the fluid level would never create a leak. About the only time you might ever see fluid on the ground would be after you added fluid thru the tube if one of the clamps came loose or the hose got a split or hole in it.....

At least you're back on the road.........

With the brilliant minds that engineered that system it astounds me that they went bankrupt. What'll they think up next?
