Clutch Pilot Bushing Sign In

I bought a new clutch pilot bushing for my 91 GMC Sierra. The old bushing is brass, the new one that just arrived does not appear to be brass (unless brass can be a different color than...brass colored). Does it matter if my new one is not brass?

Not really. It may be coated with another metal or it may be a different compound. I wouldn't worry about it if the dimensions match.

Re: Clutch Pilot Bushing Sign In

By rights it should be as named a "bushing" you can find those in hardware stores now. They are made such that when there's friction it would sweat out an oil, just enough.
Hey - long ago memory of tech school on these. You can and should measure inside diameter and outside diameter of input shaft to trans. Then clutch help in place with a pilot tool while pressure plate is evenly tightened up.
Throw-out bearing in-place and now watch out as you put trans thru all that DO NOT LET IT HANG WITH WEIGHT at all. Most do and it fubar, the clutch disc warping it you'll find out when all done driving it taking off from stopped.
It really wants a couple bolts snugged up to prove it's in place (trans) before tightening up all prove it's right before harder torque or it's trouble.

Off the exact topic: You wouldn't buy a vehicle with a standard trans from the state I'm from. In all history there were 10 people who knew how to drive them and most have passed away so you don't want those vehicles used...…….. :-) ??
