I have a 1998 Ford Econline van with app. 186,000 miles. The transmission has become difficult to pull forward in first gear and is very slow at changing to second gear. Will a filter and fluid change make much of a difference? Should I consider replacing it?

Some econoline vans will have a inline filter when they become plugged may reduce line pressure. Also wouldn't hurt to do a transmission service on it to get an idea of what condition the tranny is in. Look at the magnet for any excess metal and open the tranny filter see if there is also any excess metal.. Problem also may be electrical might be pressure sensor or soliniod on its ways out. Is the OD off light on and or flashing?
