5 speed transmission
On the front of the transmission, directly below the fill plug is another bolt with 12mm head.
What does this bolt do?
It apparently threads into a movable (nut?) inside the transmission.
The "movable" part is causing us trouble because it has become displaced making it impossible to replace the bolt.
Suggestions?
(the lower bolt was removed because the fill plug was massively overtorqued by the previous mechanic and we needed access to get a pipe wrench on the fill plug. Oops.)

That is or was the reverse gear shaft bolt. It is used to support the reverse gear shaft to the case. Hopefully you can get the bolt back in. There is a block with a threaded hole on the shaft inside the transmission. If the hole in the block isn't lined up with the hole in the case, you'll have to use a screwdriver to line it back up. If you can't get it to line up so you can screw the bolt back in, your going to have to take the transmission apart. The bolt gets torqued to 40 ft/lbs.
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thanks. I can get a screwdriver in the threaded hole, but it won't rotate into correct alignment.
Now that I know that it's part of the reverse gear setup, I'll put it back on the lift, put it in reverse and joggle the wheels. Maybe that will enable the block to move.

A maybe is while both wheels are up have a helper hold one so they don't just spin both wheels and it will line up. I think that may persuade the shaft to turn so you can get a shot at this. Don't dare put a wrench on it till you have a couple turns by hand if something works out as if all crossed up that would be a mess for sure,
