Not Coming Out of Park

Hello All! This is my first time here and I am needing some help. I will tell you everything I can. I have a 2000 GMC Yukon Denali, automatic transmission with a 5.3L engine. I just bought it yesterday from a drug seizure auction. It runs great. But it does not want to come out of park. You have to have the brake depressed and it should come out of park. Well it just decides when it will on its own. Drives awesome otherwise. Can use all the help I can get. I do have to say that I admire the moderators here as I have looked through a lot of posts and the time that they spend here helping all of us that do not know as much. Thank you for your time!!! Casper

Not sure for this vehicle but many are sensing the brake lights coming on to enable shifting out of park. Begin with simply checking that they do come on. If not find and check fuse that covers brake lights first. Don't force it out of park which isn't helpful for you right now. Report what the lights do and let's see how the release is actuated from there, T
