4 cyl. 4 speed auto 2.2 1. what is typical shift point from 3rd to 4th local around town driving? 2. round trips to work and back are only 1 mile 3. Does trans change shift habits by trans sensor if most trips are short? 4. Estimate on what RPM's should be at 55-65 MPH? 5. Sealed transaxle, no dipstick, no leaks or wetness at transaxle Thanls to anyone who responds

1. Depends on engine load and throttle position. Shift could be from 35-60 mph. 2. Is this a question? 3. If the fluid is cold, the transmission may not go into lock up. The PCM may change the shift points and the way it controls line pressure depending on fluid temperature. If the fluid overheat, the PCM may failsafe the transaxle. 4. Maybe somewhere around 2000-2500 rpm 5. Is this a question? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

1. Just asking if short 1 mile trips will affect or change trans shift habits per ECM. Is trans interactive with any sensors or electronic modules for that model year (2002)? 5. I was just wondering if old or burnt trans fluid would cause late shifting. Again, There are no leaks from case so I guess level is ok

The operation of the transmission by the ECM is not so much based off habit, but based off logic. The logic is defined by a program in the ECM that uses information from various sensors on the engine and transmission. The information is plugged into a logical table that is used to calculate an output of some kind. The output may be the increase of line pressure or the altering of shift timing. Primary inputs the program uses are throttle position, vehicle speed, and manifold pressure. Those things are crucial to the operation and performance from the transmission. In addition to the basic programming operation another set of programming called (transmission adaptation) may be tacked on to alter the transmission control logic to change as the transmission's clutches wear or actual gear change timing increases. Transmission fluid has a major impact on the reliability and operation of the transmission. The fluid not only has to lubricate the components inside the transmission, but also is used as a hydrualic medium for activating apply components and fluid coupling in the torque converter. The heat generated from the torque converter and the oil pump shearing action degrades the properties of the fluid (additives). Burnt transmission fluid is a reaction from a problem in the transmission. It means the fluid has been overheated from friction caused from a slipping component, overloading, or inadequate cooling of the fluid. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
