Re: 2002 GMC Sonoma 4 wheel drive

OK, When it rains it pours. I just found out that the 4-wheel drive is not engaging. When I change from 2-wheel to 4-wheel drive I can hear the transfer case engage and the light on the dash comes on, but that's it, no 4-wheel drive. I am wondering if this is not related to my trouble with the heat selector switch since they both use vacuum(I believe) to change. I used to hear a "whooooosh" sound when changing the selector for the heat and don't anymore. It seems like an awful coincidence that these two things would quite working at about the same time and NOT be related. Would you suspect a bad vacuum line somewhere? What would be common to both problems? Hey, at least I have heat if I get stuck. Thanks for any help! Gary

The HVAC mode doors and the front end actuator on the S15 with a NVG 2 speed transfer case are both vacuum operated. Inspect the vacuum lines under the hood. You may have a rotted out or disconnected vacuum line. Pay close attention to the vacuum lines around the brake booster area. In the fender on the driver's side is the vacuum reservoir where lines rot out also. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Sorry, I just assumed that the two problems were related so I didn't need to start a new thread. Thanks!

This is what I found........ Selector switch for heater and 4-wheel drive both work again. Thanks again! Gary
