2001, Silverado 1500, 4.3, 2wd, 202,000mi. Truck will not shift into park with column lever. Reaching under truck and pushing transmission shift lever, goes into park easily. I have adjusted cable to push transmission shift lever into park, now shift indicator does not show in "L" and cable moves a little harder. Truck shifts normally when driven. Column ball/linkage seems a little sloppy. It seems like a new cable may correct the problem but I don't want to just throw parts at it. Could there be internal transmission problems and could I be doing damage with the current cable adjustments?
