About 1 week ago the clutch pedal started sticking about halfway down. This lasted for 1 day. Today everything was fine until I backed into a parking spot that was slightly declined. When I came out my clutch pedal was again stuck down. I pulled up and was able to engage the clutch about halfway down. Luckily I made it home. The last time I experienced a similar issue was right after I bought the vehicle(45k miles) which resulted in a blown out slave cylinder on my way home from work. Since the slave is internal I had the entire clutch replaced since I was being charged for the labor anyway. So 30k miles ago I had new slave/master and clutch put in.

I inspected the master cylinder and it had a tiny bit of leakage under the pedal. The fluid level is about 1/4 inch below the max fill line. What I would like to try first is a bleed of the system. However since it's an internal slave I have no clue how to do it. I have searched and searched for videos or info to give me tips with no luck. I can not afford another 1400 shop visit so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Don't waste your time bleeding. They don't get air in the system on their own and they aren't supposed to lose ANY fluid.


Replace the master now and then bleed it

Thanks for your response Hammer Time. So how would you suggest I bleed the system if the slave cylinder is internal? Im used to the old school way of just pumping the clutch and holding it while opening the bleeder on the slave. Not sure how to do it otherwise. Sorry I am not all that up to speed on the slave being inside the bell housing. Thanks again

There should be a bleeder fitting piped out of the bellhousing.

Cool. Tomorrow ill crawl under and see if I can find it. I appreciate the help and will post back when I get it sorted out and let you know if the new master/bleed worked. I so miss the simplicity of an external slave.

Hammer Time I just wanted to give you an update..I am pretty sure I found the bleeder valve. It had a green cap over it. Unfortunately no one in Miami had the Master so I ordered a Beck Arnley part. I will prob have it tuesday and will update you after install. Interestingly the clutch pedal was fine this morning, so clearly air is getting in from somewhere. I should prob bleed until new Dot 3 pops out right? Thanks again for your help!,

If it's working, don't touch it until you change the master. It can be very difficult to bleed these systems because the bleeder is at the bottom and the air rises. If you try to mess with it before you have to, you may make it a lot worse. Wait until you have the new master before you open that can of worms.

Ok cool. I am going to try and leave it parked until I get the new part in. Since I can't push the piston in the slave is there any other way to try and push the bubbles into the reservoir, or would you just recommend keep it simple and go the old school way? Thanks

Bleeding is a difficult process and techs have all kinds of tricks they try. Personally, I think a pressure bleeder is the most reliable because in order to push that air out the bottom, you need to move a lot of fluid quickly. I've had some I have worked for hours trying to get the air out.

Hopefully I will be able to get it done without any issues. Ill look into the pressure bleeder. If i can get this fixed for around $100 including the bleeder ill be more than happy..

I just wanted to give you the final update. The part took forever to arrive and I installed it today. I bled the system (took about an hour) the old school way. The clutch feels great and so far so good. One thing I noticed as I was pulling the old master out was that the rubber boot that fits over cylinder was missing. I have a feeling that could have been a cause of the air getting in. Either way much appreciate the tips and advice!!

No, forget that theory. That is there to keep dust out of the Master.
