Hi. My 99 Miata has about 65K on it. I had bought it used and the shifting was never smooth since day one. Recently, however, If i don't use the car for a week or so, I am unable to shift it into gear when the car is on. It shifts when the car is off, but as soon as i turned it in, the stick does not want to move!
After playing, rubbing, and massaging it for a few minutes, eventually I am able to force it into 1st or other gears.
Any idea where the issue might be?

For some reason the clutch isn't disengaging or maybe the input shaft doesn't stop spinning due to a pilot bearing issue. Does the clutch pedal feel odd?
Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
