Strange Hi Pitch Noise - Stuck in L4?? Sign In

Hi folks,

I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent with approx. 185,000 kms on it. A few months after the vehicle had its main computer swapped out, the vehicle started to feel like it was in a lower gear do to the pitch of the engine. Going from L4 to D seemed to make no difference. It's very noisy in D now. The engine sounds as though your trying to run down the highway in 3 gear. The Torrent is an automatic.

Is it possible to have a transmission stuck in low gear? We have never had the transmission serviced since buying it in 2009 ish.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi gsferraro

No not yet, I do have a cheapy code reader that seems to work fine on my Torrent or is this a whole different scan plug in or diagnostic tool? I will have a go when the monsoons out side calm down. I'm not past making a few seconds video with sound if you think that would be helpful. I'm not sure if I'm allowed here. Actually I can use my youtube account and quote a link here.

Thanks

Hi gsferraro

Ok try this, I recorded a little drive around off my lap and narrated which gear and about the road. Having done, you know it does seem a little different pitch from cold to hot.

Here's the link https://youtu.be/49TFOEa7XMs

Hi gsferraro, not sure why the editor would not let me make trhe link active, but in the future just a cut and paste into a browser's new web page would work. The moderator above found it. His link above works. That's yours truly.

They don't automatically go live. You have to make it live through the editor. I did it for you.

No, clicked the link installed it through the editor (the chain link icon)....pasted the link click submit and it did nothing. Using Firefox 49.0.2 No extensions, No blockers. Some sort of Newby lock out?

You have to highlight the link first and then click on the icon. When the window opens up. paste the link into it and then save.

Hi gsferraro, I just got back from a mechanic friend and basically drove him around a bit, and he's 99% sure its the wheel bearings. He said he will know for sure when he accesses them properly. If you have time can you look at the vid and tell me if you agree or disagree?

The below was accomplished using markup in the basic editor not the link icon. This is one of my sites.

link deleted ........... not allowed

If you go into "Edit profile" and then "display settings", you can make sure it is set to " advanced editor"

My *only* point without coming out and saying it, is that I clearly know what I'm doing. Key words "my website". I design and maintain many websites. Your quoting me frivolous info. The link button does not work for me. I have no time do dicker with you on logistics like the cgi being flawed for cross browsing etc. I'm here for a vehicle answer.

No help needed moderators.

Cheers

Hi Gary

No the sound is there in different pitches with or without gas. No rpm change when shifting into L4.

Thanks
Dale

The feature works just fine for everyone else.
