Suzuki swift: gearbox does not work properly Sign In

Hey :)

I have a Suzuki swift sport 1.6 2010 30000km. I tried to unpark my car from the garage today but unfortunately the reverse gear seems to be the 4rth gear(not sure for that.Is it possible to happen something like this??) or not able to be engaged. Moreover, the gearbox stick does not move to the left in order to engage 1st and 2nd gear. I used the car 2 days ago without any problem.Do you have any idea what could be?

Thanks in advance!

That vehicle isn't sold here in the states and this is a states based forum, so advice is limited. Have you inspected the shift linkage or cables?

Thank you for the reply and sorry for posting in this forum. I didnt realized its only for the US market. The problem was that this part(the one in the red square) was missing(!!). I visited the car dealership who said me that I have to change all the transmission system and would cost me around 330 dollars(No way). I went to a car breaker where I found the same part and I just paid 20 dollars with a small tip. My question is what could cause this??

OK - If you are all set now for part(s) and knowing what the problem was to answer the simple question of what could cause this to break is easier:

Physically broken by something getting stuck in around the area?
Most likely never lubed and you wouldn't think to do so nor would it be listed on maintain the vehicle. Common sense, lube hard exposed moving parts with spray grease (most were when new) and lighter moving parts with lighter lube such as world known WD-40. That brand now sells spray lithium grease also.

That list goes wild and if you keep a vehicle and want to you do it or pay later. Every latch anywhere, hood, boot/trunk, doors, glove boxes (with a Q-Tip) - keep going to levers for seats if needed. Go on to other underside cables like parking brake cables and exposed adjustment parts.

Silly hood cables to open them bust and are a royal pest to fix all preventable, almost nobody or place does that unless you specifically request it.

One important last thing never checked is the dang jack. When you might unfortunately need it, it may not work. Check and lube those too and spare tire pressure usually never checked as well,

A lot of those cables ends have a nylon bushing in the middle. They get old and brittle and eventually pop of the lever. Funny part is that you have to purchase the whole cable to get just the little bushing.
