Hello everyone, first time poster here hoping to get some help with a tranny issue im having. Here's my story,
The tranny is in an 84 Dodge D150 w/73k original miles, bought the truck about 4 months ago off a farm from a singal previous owner. Truck has been running great since. A week after i got it I did a pan service on the tranny w/filter fluid looked pretty good for the age. No problem with tranny what so ever. I have put 1300 miles on the truck since i got it and yesterday on my way home on the highway going 70mph i started to hit some traffic and had to slow to about 30-40. Once the traffic opened back up i tried to accelerate and the tranny felt like it stuck in 3rd gear, engine reved high and k slowly started to move. I pulled to the shoulder shifted to park, that engaged. Then I tried shifting through the gears, Reverse, nothing, Drive, nothing, 2, nothing, 1, nothing. So i called a tow. As i waited for the tow truck to get there (about 15min later) i started the truck back up and tried the gears again. Reverse, worked, Drive, worked, 2, worked, 1 worked. I didnt trust it tho and still got it towed to the house. Thanks in advance!

Hello,
It sounds like your filter is clogging, as a test, start the car and let it run til it gets hot and see if it moves or get it to the point where it wont move, then shut off the car for a few minutes, start it back up and try your gears if thre trans engages then you have a filter problem, Question, did you hear any high pitch wining noise when the truck stopped moving? Also check your fluid level in neutral not park. Gary
