Talon Tranny Trouble

I have a '96 Eagle Talon ESI (non turbo) with an automatic transmission and about 185000 kms on it. Recently it's developed the following little habit... within the first five minutes of driving, if I come to a stop, sometimes the car won't go again when I hit the gas. The engine will rev, but the car won't move. It will eventually go, and shifting into and out of park or neutral seems to help. After the first few minutes of driving, it doesn't happen again... apparently it's only when the car has been sitting overnight or so. I could be wrong on this, but it seems that the quicker I stop, the more likely it is to happen. Just wondering if anyone has any general ideas before I take it to a garage.

Check the fluid level; make sure the transmission is full. If it’s full the problem is inside which may mean a rebuild. It won’t be an external adjustment they don’t change between a cold or warm condition. Dan. Canadian "EH"

Sounds like classic low fluid. If you find it low and the color is good it will fix it for now but transmissions don't use fluid so there's a leak that needs to be found and fixed. If you don't find it low there could be some serious trans work/rebuild needed and hang on to your wallet! T

Thanks guys, I'll check the level. Wouldn't have thought I'd say this, but here's to hoping there's a leak somewhere :)... I'm not liking the alternative.

Hope for the best and plan for the worst. If you need serious help and have a regular mechanic ask them where to go (Most shops don't take on transmission overhaul) Good luck, T

I hear you. Better to know about a problem than to think you're 100% fine and then... straight out of the box men.
