2009 toyota matrix 2.4L FWD manual transmission I was driving all around town for 2 hours. When I came to a stop, my shift knob started shuddering and I can hear a slight grinding noise from the transmission, and my idling rpm went down and almost stall, I tried shifting to neutral and depressing the clutch to the floor but there was still shuddering and grinding noises. However, after about a minute this occurrence went away and thank god I was able to drive home. it hasn't happen since. I'm nervous to drive it far. Should I be worried? Any ideas?

Did the clutch pedal feel different when this happened? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Gary - The site's trans expert should be by perhaps tomorrow? Seems like something plain broke to me. Check for now if it shifts into all gears engine running and again when off for info if asked by him. I'm interested in reverse working at all or if sitting still can make that grinding noise can't be normal. FYI, reverse in the few STD shift vehicles I've ever dealt with is not synchro meshed if clutch isn't disengaged would grind if too fast to shift in many, T T

The clutch feels the same. I remember pressing the clutch all the way down but still the shift knob was shuddering and the grinding noise was still there. But it stop when I start shift to 1st gear and got the car going. Then it hasn't happened since. This happened a couple of days ago. I went home and immediately changed out the transmission fluid, so I hope that will help.

Reverse works good, the transmission shifts good for now. I was at a complete stop, when the shift knob started shuddering and making grinding noise. I think it did it for about a minute, until I put it in 1st gear and got the car moving again, it hasn't happen since.
