I have a 95 Chevy chyene pickup. The tranny quit while traveling 55 mph down the road. There was no warning like gears slipping or missing. It was pulling fine one second and the next second absouluty nothing. Any ideas?

Can happen. If fluid is full and still does this not a good sign IMO for that trans. I low - find out why, T

fluid is backed way up on the stick above full line. It does not change while running. I changed filter about four months ago. Now ill try changing the pump. I have the pan off the tranny. Is the pump round with two springs and a plunger? Thanks for the help. Ernest

Not a trans specialist but the pump should be up front. As Z was leading to and since you did just change the filter and you are looking at it now - did it fall down somehow? Is it snug to the grommet and sealed? If it's sucking air instead of fluid with a problem with the filter which should be immersed in fluid it wouldn't engage anything as the functions -- bands and clutches are actuated by fluid pressure for it to do anything. Can't recall and you didn't say which trans of two this has but if just a friction fit filter and a problem that could cause this. I'll let Z finish as he would know better but I don't think you can do anything with the pump with trans installed, T

Pumps on the front of the tranny check your filter make sure the rubber gasket is still there to seal the filter as Tom mentioned.. make sure there is not 2 seals jammed in there. Also try replacing with another filter it might be restricted possibly.

I have the same symptoms on my 1996 Monte Z34. Did you remove the pump while the tranny was in the car? If so how?
