Was driving the car when I hit a dang rock .It caved in the oil-pan ( not real bad)..and every bit of the tranny fluid dumped out..put fluid in ..fuild runs out..took it to a garage..where its sat for the last 9 months..all they did was drop the oil-pan and banged it out..I was told they sean that there was a bad rod-bearing...and never sean any damage to the transaxle???.. Now that i got time I went and got the car...Heres my question...Befor the killer rock car was quiet..now it sounds just like a bearing trashed..Now I know theres damage to the trans ..would this cause the sounds like a spun bearing?????....

The waiting 9 months is a problem alone! If an oil pan for engine or trans ( they are different ) was damaged and leaked then just pounding it back out wouldn't stop the leak. Which or both were damaged? Did you try to drive it when empty? Did it just sit void of engine oil or trans fluid out in the rain for 9 months or something? If a pan was damaged bad enough it could have bent into parts inside - was it that bad in your opinion?

The oil pan was banged in ..but to me it wasnt that bad..there was no oil loss just tranny fluid...the oil pan was put back on..why on earth they saw there was a bad bearing (thats what they say) and not do anything I dont know..I dont think they wanted to work on it from the get-go..so I just let the car sit there cuz I didnt have time or room for it...For damage to the trans pan I didnt see any and I was told by the garage monkies they didnt see any damage ..Car runs good just the bad knocking sound..its not drivable wont go into gear even with fluid in...Im putting the car upon stands tomorrow and if the sound is loud and clear from the oil pan then I'll know that problem...And I'll pray the crank is good enough that I can just put in new bearings...As for the trans Im at a loss there..I checked around and found another transaxle...I've never messed with front wheel drive befor and was told its a F...ing bitch..because of the sub-frame and all..I dont know i'll find out..If u know of any tricks to droping the trans please let me know..thanks

Let's start over. You hit a rock. Trans fluid dumped out. You thought minimal damage to it's pan??

Where was the fluid leaking from? It could have been a line or who knows? An engine bearing is kind of high up and not something I would think would get damaged from denting the engine's oil pan quite so easily. There is a pick up screen that might have been damaged and the engine can't pick up oil and certainly could cause damage if run like that.

Waiting 9 months by you or the shop is nuts! Any attempt to drive this car could have caused more damage.

This is impact damage not what anyone logs in their knowlege base as routing for age, miles or wear.

Get under there and see and take pics if possible of what was damaged. I've pounded out trans pans on that exact 3.8 engine that didn't leak. If they had or if I saw anything when pan was removed I would assess if it was ok or not from there. When these cars are nice, newer or valuable the pans should definately be replaced. This metal could be torn, creased or puntured. I'm not thrilled with trying to repair damage to either oil or trans pans.

Back: If you could wait 9 months do you even need this car at all?

Thanks for the reply... There is no damage to the the trans pan what so ever ...fluid is comming out where the torque converter is at the fly-wheel...it seems theres no damage to the torque converter but i cant see the back side. I got the sub-frame down and going to drop the trans tomarrow.....I did drop the oil pan to see if there was a spun bearing and no....I have the car on stands and when running the tapping sound was comming from the close side of the tranny...I do know about cars (not to good with front wheel drives) but i have never had a trans go out and make this kind of sound...one question ..How the hell do you get the drive axles out????...Ive been told u just pry them out but these are stuck and i dont want to brake the cv housing ...is there a trick.. no seems to know

Ya - that would do it! A good salvage yard should have the info and an inventory of what you need,
