I have '08 Toyota Rav 4 with a humming noise issue and a local dealer deemed as needing a new tranny, is $ 4100 the going rate or should i just buy a 4100 car?

With the cost of the tranny & $100hr with all the additionals,,,,that's about right. This was for a V6 4WD,,, the 4 2WD is about 1hr less. Depending on the mileage another option would be to do piece work at a tranny shop..... A humming problem is more than likely just a bad bearing but if the mileage is high it would make no sense to do piece work..... If this is over 100k on the clock I would recommend a new tranny....
