Transmission does not do anything Sign In

I replaced the engine in a 2000 Ford Explorer 4.0 liter 6 cylinder engine, After it was installed the transmission will not move the car at all.
Fluid level is good, no leaks apparent, The transmission had been slipping occasionally prior to replacing the engine. No error codes were found on my analyzer. I wonder if it was connected wrong to the engine? I desperately need some remedy or a place to start looking.

If it was slipping before, you were on borrowed time then. I assume you had to add fresh fluid and the detergent in the fresh fluid is commonly the undoing or a marginal trans. Another possibility is that you damaged the front pump installing the engine.

Thnks for the advice and quick response. Where do I start the front pump? Why wouldn't the analyzer show some error codes?

Computers aren't magic 8 balls. They monitor certain electrical circuits but they don't see everything.

You know.....No offense here but I gotta ask

You did bolt up the torque converter?

This one is a Ford, they use studs off the converter so it would still be connected but rattle to beat all hell if not having the nuts torqued down.

Why did you drop an engine into something that already had a slipping trans and not do the whole bit in one shot while it was down? Put the power of a fresh motor against a weak trans and expect kaboom to happen.

Time to shop for a new trans from the sounds of it.

It was a matter of M.O.N.E.Y. But I think you are on the right tract about the tourque converter because the bolts were loose and rattled when I first cranked the engine after it was replaced. I do appreciate your advice and I will replace the transmission next week, I love this forum.
