Sounds like just a broken shift cable. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

What about the other end that connects to the transmission? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Agree on that. Look at trans end. If you can turn that by hand you know it's screwed. Now - if you turn that not sure if you can or should without lots of care and skill try to start and move this so let's wait on that, T

OK - The warning is now you could go to start it and be in any gear until you know turning that thing is in P for park and still don't trust it. If it must be moved with it OFF try to get help and push it if close to where needed or tow it. Yes there are tricks not discussed until you say it's a must and have help, know how and more! T

It won't start in gear. The neutral switch is on the trans.

I wouldn't trust it as far as I can throw it till cable is done and proves itself. Unless it has been just left running all this time it starts in low now anyway but we don't know that.......... T

Yes, we do know. The transmission Range sensor is on the transmission so the only way this is going to start is if someone jumps out the starter.

Was avoiding any tricks till cable job was done. WE don't know if it also starts anywhere by OP yet or if there's a reason perhaps never known why cable broke to begin with. I don't hear of that much, T

The cables don't actually break. The plastic connectors on the ends break.

Let the OP come back is not ticked now. It may have broken because of a neutral switch all jammed somehow up for all we know? T
