Transmission won't shift

I had the transmission replaced in my car in July with a "tranny" from an auto salvage yard. (a cash for clunkers car)(and as luck would prevail I have to have an "odd-ball" vehicle....year specific for this part) (I was told donor vehicle was a 1995 S-10 blazer 4-WD (only difference was my 4-WD is push button activated and the donor vehicle had lever (in floor) activated 4-WD The mechanic who did the work for me said he checked everything on both transmissions and they were identical. He put the used trans in my car using my push button 4-WD transfer case. Everything bolted up, all wiring fit but the transmission starts off in (what I think) is 4th gear and never shifts. If you put the selector in L or 2 it takes off in a lower gear (maybe 3rd) and when you manualy shift the car into D the transmission will shift into (what I think is 4th) but wont go into Overdrive. If you have the car in OD while driving it stays in (what I think is 4th) and when you let up on the gas it does freewheel while coasting. A mechanic I know said he checked the car with a hand-held computer and it shows a bad "B" and "D" shift soloniod. Another mechanic says I put in the wrong type transmission. Another mechanic says it has a bad Torkconverter (we did use my Tork with the used Transmission) The reason for replacing the transmission was it had a serious leak (blew a cooling line)and my wife didn't notice the problem untill it quit pulling and "burned" it up. Where do I go from here? Thanks, Jimmy
