Can anyone help me find the automatic transaxle dipstick location for a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. I just purchsed this car and its shifting hard from first to second.

May not have one.
Trans specialist may be by soon or later should note same car's speedometer isn't reading properly at this link, this site,

You're right! It doesnt have a dipstick the dealer said. I have to take it somewhere and have them check the tran oil level. My Haynes book says there is a dipstick but I've searched and searched and I'm not seeing it. So What do they do to check the level? Does anybody know how I can DIY it? Thank you all for all of your help; I am a novice but a quick learner.

Gary will be back when he can with procedure for this.
Just a warning on manuals you can afford: They are loaded with misinformation just generic over decades full of mistakes that never get corrected. Beware of that, wrong information is worse than no information.
I want to re-assert that the speed you are reading you said is wrong and that it jumps or engages gears abruptly also. Said in other thread that will matter if it has been altered from OE sizes it effectively changes gear ratios,

I found this from (links to another site especially not allowed) I believe it's speaking avout a 2003 Sunfire but this is what this person said:
Don't add trans fluid unless you can check the fluid level. You can check the level from underneath. Make certain the vehicle remains level while checking the fluid. Located just above the top sealing flange of the transmission oil pan you will find a threaded plug. Remove the plug and see if transmission fluid drips out of the hole. If so, the fluid level is correct. If not, remove the red fill cap on top of the transmission, driver side. Add fluid to the transmission until fluid dribbles out of hole. Replace and tighten the plug. If you can't do that, take it to a mechanic to have them check the level, when they get it on the lift, you don't want to run the trans with an overfilled transmission as this will cause problems. But since it is slipping it might also mean it's rebuild time.
Is this correct for my car? I mean the service station has to check it somehow.
My trans isn't slipping it just shifts hard and even chirped the tires, going from 1st to 2nd, when I'm driving slow. If I give it more gas it shifts fine. Could it be my idle speed is too high?

Ok, this is a 4T40E Trans, to check the fluid level, car should go up on a lift, just below the right side axle is a small plug, take the plug out with the car running, if fluid comes out trans is full. If you need to add fluid on top of the trans there will either be a black or red plastic cap, unscrew that to add fluid. Gary

The fluid level is correct but it still shifts hard into second gear; does that automatically mean I need to rebuild?

Didn't get the test done yet; a part for my furnace came in and I had to get that running; I'll get ur done tomorrow.

I failed to get the test done, I will give the codes as soon as i do. Today I drove it and manually went through the gears and it shifted smooth. Does that make any sense?

Do you mean yesterday when it shifted fine by shifting manually, yes i believe it still does it in drive only, but I will let you know for sure asap. Thank you so much for your help. I have a wedding to go to so I may not get the codes until Monday. I will at least make an appointment today.
