auto won't go into 4th gear Sign In

Hi all, I am trying to help my brother, he has a 2006 ford falcon ute, 6 cylinder dedicated lpg, used for work.
2 days ago his car started to slip auto gears during the day, then later in the day he turned off the motor then tried to start it and it wouldn't start, he called the roadside assistance place and a mechanic came out and changed the ignition fuse, tried again and the replacement fuse also fried, so he got it towed to his normal mechanic shop.

Yesterday the mechanic phoned my brother and it was a solenoid in the auto causing the problem, they replaced that and serviced the automatic but told him it's going but it won't go into 4th gear, he said a reconditioned automatic would cost him $1500.
The same mechanic put a new automatic transmission in it only about 3 years ago.

So does it sound like a full tear down job of the automatic trans or is there something else it could possibly be.
thanks.

fortunately the transmissions can be scanned for codes... that would be a start, also knowing what solenoid was changed
would help diagnosing this.

Thanks Kev for your reply, I don't know what solenoid was replaced but that is what I thought as well, plug in the scan tool and the ecu should have left a code/s, the mechanic is a real shifty character & he knows my brother doesn't know anything about cars.

When he towed the car in this fellow said there is water in the transmission straight away and it doesn't even have a automatic dip stick to check it with, the next day he said the alternator needs replacing it's causing the ignition switch fuse to blow out, which was not right of course, then he said he needed an auto electrician to check it out, it all sounds like he is trying to get into my brothers wallet.

Butting in just to say in Australia the name "Falcon" was given to what US would call a Taurus and doubt 6 speed trans but can't find out either,

Is this a front wheel drive or rear wheel drive?

Yikes - trying to find info and specs for this. Yes - did find this is available in a turbo, Yes with a 6 speed auto and other versions but do think a FWD. Pic below if shows is that of a unit body front wheel drive style body IMO only?

Ford of AU has used names as said on current Ford vehicles with now older Ford names so unless this poster tells and knows some more we may not know too much about specifics.

General just off the web phone of a 2006 Ford Falcon. Now let the guessing begin how equipped?

Pics iffy..........................

^^ It was there if it stays showing,

Re: auto won't go into 4th gear Sign In

according to my info (im on the transtec app) from 2002-2010, 4.0L,4 speed trans is called DSI M93LE. Other than that, i cant find information on this trans. It also says from 2004-2014 with 4.0(and other engine sizes) has the 6HP26.
