hi there everyone this is a 99 Altima four cylinder, the engine starts fine, but when the shift lever is engaged on D or R the car doesn't move at all. I guess this is a trani problem, what should I check first before blaming the transmission. thank you and God bless you all.

How is the fluid level and condition?
Can you roll the car in park? If so, check your CV axles.
Can you see if the linkage is moving on the transmission when you select gears? Make sure someone has their foot on the brake while your looking.
Is the check engine light on?

Hi there again like you asked me to check, I have checked the fluid level and condition and it is fine. but the car rolls on park, and when I shift the lever to the park position there is a grinding noise, I also checked the CV joins and boot seems to be fine, do you think it's time to point my finger at the transmission. thank you an God bless.

While someone is in the car with their foot on the brake have them put it into gear while the engine is running. Look underneath the vehicle and see if any part of the CV axles on either side is rotating. If any part of an axle is rotating, that axle is bad.

Becareful looking under there with the vehicle out of park. Be sure the brake is on. It might even be a good idea to chock the wheel.

Hello there thank you, yes the right side CV axle was bad. we did like you suggested. we lift the car up put it on jack stand. and when we run the ca in D the CV axle inner was rotating but not the outer, i guess it was partially damaged, we will replace it tomorrow, I think it should be fine after that. thank you the help.
