would like to thank you for your input on my problem i do my own work on my vehical and am real good at perpairing for trips there for i have a really good asortment or tools at my disposal shop is not a opsion so if there is anything else you may be able to suggest i am going to go out and losen tranny line i figure if the pumps shot when i start it it will just drip if its working it will spray your input would be appreciated awaiting response

Why on earth would you do that? If it drives and fluid isn't burned the pump is working. It would probably just drip fast not spray all over the place. Common breakdowns include tires, belt(s), hoses, overheating from any cause. You should be watching those items anyway. Carry water and oil and make sure spare tire isn't flat and that jack is operational. Anything can happen to about any car by surprise, T

ok i havent done that it was a thought i threw your way for your input like i said on my first post it threw about three quarts of tranny fluid and hasnt leaked a drop sense i put three back in i moved it 4 times no lek but shifts hard what is my next step minus shop you seem to have the right advice so shoot some more my way please

I can't guess what you are working on. Please start a thread with the basics, year, make, model, engine size, trans, and miles. If you could put three qts of ATF in this thing it's not road ready period. It had to have quit driving over that much low. You may have damaged trans too. First find the leak for sure. If it moves now and doesn't slip the pump is pumping but doesn't mean it doesn't leak there. Your test would prove nothing. You have to find where the fluid went and a pump seal is just one of the places and probably not just a seal but more work if so. Trans has to come out for just a seal. Shaft seals, cooling lines, many use radiator to cool trans fluid and can leak into coolant there. This is NOT ready for a trip out of sight like that. If you don't have the money for a proper fix then you wont have the $$ to fix it away from home base for trips, T

my truck is a 92 ford f150 flair side 4x4 351 5.8 injected i had no leak before it started smoking on the highway at which time i pulled over so from time of smoke to side of road was about 2 minutes then i looked under truck seen tranny fluid coming from the flywheel dust cover which made me believe at that time i had a blown front seal i was about half mile from exit so i continued to exit at about 5 mph when i got there i pulled dip stick there was a little showing on it so i added fluid to where it read full then started truck and let it run moving shifter from reverse to low 2nd and drive to get tranny fluid to flow i drove truck from gas station to restrant across the street tranny did not leak or drip there for it is not front seal!!! which makes me believe it could be the tranny pump or ??? my question is how would i go about check to see if pump is working or not or what other things i might check i have moved the truck 3 times around the block and parked it because of were i am and it still reads full on dip stick yesterday it went into gear just smooth as can be instead of hard no slipping of any kind and like i said i have been working on cars and rebuilding motors for lots of years trannys are not my specialty but i aint dum so if you have some constructive helpful info i would gratly appreciate it if not just say so dont waist my time im trying to get my self and wife home which is a 140 mile drive so if you dont no anything that can help me just say so and ass far as why i would pull a line to see if i had tranny fluid presure oh i dont no it just sounded logical if pumps working fluid would build up pressure and spay at least that is what it did on are 77 vet when i forgot to tighten the hose clamp when i took the 327 out and put the big block in and put upper and lower a arms and big block spings and shocks front and back

You check ATF level in this with engine at idle, level ground and warmed up in Park. IDK, if this thing was messed with and way too full it probably would blow it out with expansion as it warms. With that mistake now you don't know where the fluid level is or was from the last time someone pulled something like it?? Of course they care to be within about a pint of the correct level, not quuarts over or under! T
