So the engine is running now, but when you take off the transmission is in another gear other than 1st? Why did you replace the fuel pump? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

If the engine is running now, the transmission may have defaulted into 3rd gear. When the transmission solenoids lose power or ground, the transmission will only have 3rd and reverse. Did you do anything else besides drop the fuel tank and change the fuel pump? Do you have a code reader? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You have a bunch of solenoid electrical codes. Pull the electrical connector off the front of the transmission. There will be a pink wire. If you have a meter or test lamp check for battery voltage on the pink wire with the ignition turned on. The connector will be above the vacuum modulator in the picture below. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

There is a fuse in the fuse panel in the engine bay. The fuse is labeled MISC ENG fuse 5 20 amp. Check the fuse. Is the fuse good? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

With the fuse plugged in check for power at the fuse with the ignition turned on. You should have power on both sides of the fuse. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

If you have power at the fuse but no power at the pink wire at the connector for the transmission with the ignition turned on, you have an open circuit pink wire in the harness somewhere. Inspect the harness and wiring really good that goes from the transmission to the main harness for the engine. Make sure the harness isn't rubbing on anything or has damage. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
