My tranny started leaking after oil change 3 months ago. Tried different stop leak products,which helped for a while then didn't. I wanted to ask my mechanic if possibly something was loose, or damaged, but didn't want to piss him off. He gets a little defensive, but is a good mechanic, and has reasonable prices. I don't have any extra money for repairs so I just keep adding fluid. How can I check it myself ? What exactly would I be looking for? I might be female, but I have no problem getting under the jeep to check it out. I'm hoping I can fix it myself. I just need to know what I'm looking for.Can anyone help me out?

1. Don't use stop leak or magic in a bottle crap for anything.
2. What is this thing? "jeep" isn't enough.
3. 3 months later you seem to blame an oil change? Where's it leaking from? If you can't tell just how are you planning to fix this on your own? No telling where it leaks by description yet or if this is an automatic or standard for that matter.
Your gender has nothing to do with mechanical abilities, either you are inclined or not and have the place and tools plus willing to learn.
No money. Whatever this is by using sealer factor in the cost of flushing that out now. Nothing known yet if a simple leak or destroyed transmission.
More info needed,

Your mechanic needs to get the thing in the air and determine where the leak is actually coming from first. If you mechanic is defensive, you need to find another mechanic. There are plenty of good mechanics out there with better attitudes towards their customers.
If this is an automatic, one of the worse things you could do is add a bunch of stop leak to it.

whats the year make and model of your jeep, if anything get under it clean it down to try to pinpoint the leak, see if its coming from the front or middle of the jeep.

To "Long retired now" I did not say oil change caused leak, I noticed the leak right after the oil change, (next day). I just wondered if the two might be connected. I don't know anything about how a vehicle works, just the basics, which is why I am asking questions.F.Y.I., it is a 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited, automatic,3.7. I tried stop leak products because unlike some people, I did not know they weren't any good. My income is very limited and this seemed like a good option for me. The leak is at the front of the car just about in in the middle if looking from the front. It leaks most when I start it up, and slows right down shortly after. I don't claim to know anything about cars, but I'm not an idiot either, and could have done without the sarcasm, so if you ca n give any advice with the info I have given it would be appreciated, otherwise there is no need to reply. ...To everyone else that replied thank you for your suggestions.

It all comes down to visually determining where the leak is originating from. Once you know where the leak is coming from, then you can figure out what needs to be done to stop it.
