Automatic or standard (not said) wouldn't matter IMO at age and miles if it needs to come all apart why wouldn't you put in the new wearing parts?

I suggest getting a diagnosis and high bet is trouble inside. Automatics use clutches, bands, seals, gaskets and more that come in a kit not all that expensive but labor intensive with special tools and know how. If as already said it has to come out and apart it's not my advice to even try to fix just one thing only to be back there later.

A shop is unlikely to warranty the work if not done right. At the miles it could easily have gone thru one already but I can't peg a life expectancy for them. Just junked a parts car of my own with known original trans but cared for w 216,000+ miles and others can fail at any time for odd reasons or wear exacerbated by the way it has been used/driven and heat,
