There's a cable linkage at the throttle body with a fairly weak connector that if broken off and pulled could make the car think it's floored all the time. That cable is mechanically sensing throttle position and must be in place. When they break they usually won't downshift but might have jammed up last time the gas pedal was to the floor. How many miles and has this trans already gone thru an overhaul?
