Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

It is possible that you fixed it. On OBDII vehicles, the PCM has to test the circuit 3 consecutive drive cycles in order to shut the light off. Here's the catch, the PCM won't do certain tests on every drive cycle. I'd drive it for a few days to see if the light turns off. If it stays on, then you will have to go further.

Which sensors are you changing? These are both codes for downstream sensors. Plugged cats are also possible but not likely.

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

ive changed both rear sensors,1st was code 140,now its 160,ive checked th fuse, made sure i was getn power and checked for 5 volts,i had no luck checkn for a ground,i used a seperate battery with my test light on the black wire on the plug that plugs in to the sensor,i wiggled the wires at the pcm, clear it out and abt 20 miles boom the light is back on.i been told it could be the pcm but im not sure of anything now,i heard from 1 guy and said it could be stuck between the circuits or sumthn where it goes hi to low

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

The codes are saying there is no activity from the sensor so the first step would be to verify voltage coming from the sensor using a digital voltmeter with the engine running to see if that is true or not. If you find response at the sensor, then test it again where it enters the PCM.

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

Your looking for a varying voltage between 0 and .999 that won't show up until the cat starts getting hot.

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

i did do that and both are getting that,im thinkn its a ground,a guy at parts hse told me to use a seperate source of power like another battery and take the test light and probe the harness going into the sensor for ground, gues he means the black wire,do i do this with the switch on or off,and do i hook the test light to the pos or neg of the battery, all in all ive got pwr to the sensor,i done wht u said and its like u said varying,i put a new sensor on both sides,so either its a ground or the pcm i guess, like i said the 140 hasnt come back just the 160,Crazy
i forgot to check at pcm for tht varying voltage

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

Don't going pumping power into that sensor if you don't know what your doing. The only thing that gets power there is the heater and your not getting a heater code.
If you want to test the ground, just use their ground wire as your meter ground.

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

true, well fixn 2 try out agn,i checked voltage b-twn black&red wire at connector for 12 volts&tht tuk care of the ground check, thn i done wht u said as far as warm up&tht checked out,so thn i unhooked th connectorplug&unplugged th pcm&tuk a ohm meter&checked for any differance in the tan&purple wire for a open circuit and they were th same,so i gues its in th pcm if ths drive cycle doesnt work

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

The 2 black wires are for the heater. You should have 12v (key on) at one and ground at the other but since your not getting a heater code, I wouldn't be too concerned with those 2. The ground for the sensor which grounds through the sensor itself is the tan wire and the purple is the signal wire so you should be measuring between the 2.
This is only on the bank2 sensor which is the passenger side.

That's not setting your 0/2 sensor code.

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

Now you need to test it right at the sensor to determine if it's the sensor or the wiring between the computer and sensor.

Yep, sounds like it was wired differently.

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

The rear sensor should not be like the front. It should vary from approximately .4 volts to .6 volts on a real slow crossover.

Re: 01 silverado,4.3liter Sign In

His PCM was getting no signal at all from the sensor on that side and it was setting a "no response" code.

Sorry. I was referring to this post. if I am reading right he wants to know if both sensors on the same side should read the same. Will refrain from poisting on this issue. Sorry again.

I believe he was referring to both downstreams which are the ones he had the original problems with.
