Hello, CarJunkies,
I'm trying to fix a friend's Snap-On MT2500 scanner that was taken apart.
Yes... I've read on this forum of it's "brick" nickname. :)
Where can I find a wiring diagram for the insides? Specifically,...
I'm pretty sure that the three wires shown, coming from the Thumb-wheel,
go onto the J7 connector: Red on the Left, Black on the Right. Is that correct?
There's another similar-looking three wires, coming from the Yes/No buttons on the lid.
I think they go to the J8 connector, but... where?
1. Red on the left?
2. Does that set go into J8 1-2-3 or into J8 2-3-4?
D a r n... I can't get those Pictures to appear in the post. Ah, well...
Please reply with (a link to?) the wiring diagram.
And now, for the original problems...
This thing was disassembled, trying to find a reason for these problems...
1. The 9VDC battery is constantly draining.
When the 9v is plugged in, it goes dead after 30 minutes.
That's when the unit is not connected to a vehicle, and nothing is showing in the display.
2. When the unit is not connected to a vehicle,
the "Quick ID" button must be pressed constantly, in order for anything to appear in the display.
If you release that small red button, the display goes blank. Is that normal?
Besides replacing the unit, can you tell me of a solution to those problems?

Been ages since I've had a brick apart....
As far as powering up....Without it plugged into a selfpowered DLC you would have to hold that button for the display to light up and be able to put in info.
As far as the battery draining, if it's good brand of battery then something staying on that shouldn't be, draining the battery but as far as a brick goes, you really don't need that battery, even with the black cartridges it powers up so fast just plug it into a DLC & go.....
I don't have a diagram handy so will have to look around....

You can buy one of those things for under $100 now but you'll never find any new parts for one.They are just obsolete.

Wow. Thanks very much for the input, guys.
I apologize for my slow reply... I wasn't expecting your Fast replies.
1. What's a "DLC"?
2. Yeah... the "brick" is an antique, but from what I've been told,
the newer scanners can't deal with OLD vehicles.
This unit IS good for them, and that's what my (old) friend works on. :)
Regardless, I'd like to try to get this thing back to "operational".
We'll forget about Why the 9VDC battery drains.
IF YOU've got one of these scanners,...
can ya' PLEASE just remove the three screws on the bottom and look inside?
It's not necessary to remove any wires... just open it up like a clam,
with the "clam hinge" nearest the Top (near the digital screen).
Please just tell me where / how those six wires attach.
The main (J7 & J8) questions are in my original post. Please see above.

Don't have one to take apart....Looking at the pic there is another slot...J6? by the eeprom it may go to....
Just look at the board very carefully, sometimes you can tell if something has been in a socket or not...
DLC....diagnostic link connecter

Thanks for the replies, Sidom.
Nope... there's no other space for the wires to connect to.
I'm sure that the wires in the pic go to J7, but I'm not sure of the alignment.
And I'm sure that the other wires (from the Yes/No buttons) go to J8,
but I'm not sure of either the alignment or the specific holes.
Does anybody feel comfortable opening up their Brick?
