Dodge caravan can't remove axle Sign In

I am trying to remove the axle from the steering knuckle and I can't turn the knuckle far enough to remove the axle eventhough I have removed the ball joint. Do I have to pull the bottom ball joint as well and is there pressure on that joint from the front spring? Chilton's book does not tel me. I am trying to remove the engine and need to remove the axles to pull the transmission with the engine.

rick; Hope you didn't lose two fingers while you were doing this.Wink Yes, seperate the lower ball joint. You'll need to remove the brake caliper and support it, first. (don't let it hang by the brake hose)

Lorens right, you can lose 2 fingers doing that way.......lol There is alot of pressure require to pull the lower con arm down far enough to get the stud out of the knuckle (easy part) and then to put it back in ( hard part).
.
.
Another way would be to remove the 2 strut bolts & let the knuckle fall forward. The con to doing that way would be you would have to get an alignment afterwards
