I believe you can check by measuring the temperature from the beginning of the cat, the cat itself, and behind the cat and there should be a 100-200 degree difference rite? You can also do a pressure test before and after the cat rite or wrong? Ifso what should the two common pressure specs be? I never had to test a cat before So i just want to see If I'm rite or if theres a easier way to do it? Thanks -------------------------------------------------------- Your only as good as your tools!

Sure you can if you are testing for a plugged converter but he was not. He had an EFFICIENCY code. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

There is no test for that. the computer already performs about the most accurate test possible because it takes many factors into consideration before determining that. When someone asks a question here on the forum about their car, they don't appreciate someone else coming in and asking their own questions and sending the thread in a totally different direction, taking the attention off their problem and turning it into someone else's private tutoring session..

So what would be the nxt step, to replace the cat? When a geo metro I was working on had a cat efficiency code after replacing the upstream o2 sensor for a heater circuit problem and, then having the ECU reprogramed by the dealer the cat efficiency code never came up again, Would the o2 sensor have fixed this or the new software update? I understand fully about stealing the attention away from them, Thank you for being nice about it and I promise it will not happen again. -------------------------------------------------------- Your only as good as your tools!

That's a pretty rare situation and I suspect that the reprogramming by the dealer changed the parameter for setting the code and made it less sensitive.

I reason I had it reprogramed cause It was not completing the drive cycle even after 500 miles. Soon as it was reprogramed it completed it in like 70 miles, I guess It's a good thing to get older vehicles updated to the new software anyway and it was only like $100 bucks for this car. How often do you think a car should be updated? -------------------------------------------------------- Your only as good as your tools!
