How to connect fuel line to gas tank

1963 Mercedes 220S 6 cyl 87,000 miles I am trying to change the dried up rubber adapter between the fuel line and the nipple on the gas tank. However, i see that the nipple is quite a bit larger than the line diameter. Is there some kind of fuel line adapter out there, that makes it the same size? I tried to connect a hose from NAPA, but it is too small on one end and too big on the other. If I force it to stretch that much, I thought it may get a crack in it sooner...... any thoughts?? Thanks!! MartyG

First, have you checked with an MB dealer hopefully with specs or better with the old hose? Some clue (not that much) that it might be a molded hose with even a curve in it required. Hose must be fuel and vacuum rated. Not sure how much room you have to work with or use more length than what might be OE and secure it well? AYOR on possibly using a brass barbed adaptor to the 2 different hoses and strongly suggest MB's OE clamps which are a good full circle of pressure on hose to fitting much better than common "worm" clamps. Should be low pressure, possible electric pump right at tank external? Pay total attention to placement of anything attempted if you just can't find an exact fit section of hose that is just right that might fit another model or even newer model. Good luck. Check what you do carefully of course that nothing is likely to harm it if a slight creation to make one up, T

I think electric pumps were pretty scarce in '63, even for Mercedes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I think that's right. Also think hose was early Neoprene and MB no surprise would have them made up with the different sizes making it tricky. Was happy with real MB clams as I said. They really snug hose well if like I'm thinking. Keep several around for assorted critical needs for a flipping clamp to really do the trick without question, T
