My 1/2" impact is dying. Im more concerned with durability than torque. What one(s) do you like? Also looking for suggestions on a compact 3/8" drive impact.

Without a doubt for me it is Snap-On in both drive sizes. The 3/8 will get into tight spots with nice power, the 1/2 gun has not only power but as long as you keep it oiled it lasts. I bought mine used ten years ago, got plenty of work out of it up until 5 years ago. I sent it in to Snap-On via my rep and for $120 it got fully rebuilt. Have yet to have an issue with it yet and fully expect at least ten more years out of it.
If the list price is holding you back, don't overlook pawn shops and sometimes garage sales. I have been to garage sales where the people were ignorant of what it was they had for whatever reason, maybe they inherited the tools or something. Craigslist and EBay can sometimes yield positive results too. I have seen CP and Ingersoll fall right apart with heavy use, my SO stuff keeps soldiering on and its worth the price.

I don't disagree with Nick about Snap-on being high quality but the price is just as outrageous.
Ingersol rand has been making quality air tools for may years and they are readily available online at good prices.
They make the lightweight titanium that is an awesome gun and it made in both 3/8 and 1/2.
This gun can be bought for under $300 with 700 ft/lbs of power
I've been using this gun for over 10 years and it's still going strong.

Thanks. Ive heard good things about the blue point from snap-on and their price tag is a little more bearable. I dont buy much from the truck usually. My current gun is a napa labeled one, not sure who makes it. The front end was getting warm so i pulled it apart and greased everything up. Its a little better. It just doesnt seem to have the torque it did at first. I oil it regularly, but seems to be slowly dying.

My 2 cents: Hard to stay brand loyal. SO certainly has built a name for itself and thought I'd be brand loyal pricey or not but some stuff is totally useless junk.
NAPA once would or seemed to always choose quality if their name was on something - anything but finding that low price sells so they sell some junk too. Hard to know who makes what when now more than ever.
Keep oiling and also check air source for water,

I got one of those Matco 12V infinium 1/4 impacts during a tool truck liquidation. I love it. I use that sucker on everything and it is awesome for doing dash work, Ford truck COP coils, valve covers, engine covers, worm style hose clamps, and any other light duty jobs. Battery operated impacts are the way to go with your air tools as back up. Also suggest the 1/4" drive locking extensions set and hardened 1/4 drive deep sockets.

I have the Makita combo. I use them all the time

Ive got a little bosch impact that i like. I would like a smaller one like that makita, but it works well. A little more torque wouldnt hurt it, its not great at breaking loose rusty ones.

Ive had both matco and snap on impacts spending 400-450 each. I bought a nitro aircat of amazon to keep at home. It was about $160. Since then i brought my matco gun home and use the nitro cat at work. I love that thing, lots of power. Only had it 6 months but so for my best bang for my buck.
