Got a 77 Pontiac Trans Am, auto trans, air conditioning 400 cid. Heater core started to leak on the passenger side of the car about 4 months ago. Got everything dried out and by passed the core. Didn't need heat in the summer. Probably still don't because the car will be put in storage for the winter next month. I know that changing a core can be a pain. Want to keep everything working like new. The shop I go to says it will take up to 10 hours to fix. They charge $60 an hour. Is there any short cuts to get this done?

No, there isn't and if he is only charging you $60 per hour, you should jump on it, assuming he knows what he is doing. The going labor rate around here is $100-$150 per hour.

Don't be shocked if a lot of the plastic breaks in the process. It.s 43 years old and will have to be handled sorta roughly.
