I think every owner's manual gives instructions. All say make the last connection a ground cable best to donor car.

IF YOU SMELL A ROTTEN EGG TYPE SMELL: Stop and that's a clue that a battery has shorted and is realeasing hydrogen gas which can blow the hood off a car or worse!!

Smart move is to fan the battery of the needing car even when you don't smell anything. Even just with your hands which is probably all you have available. Leave cables on and both cars running for a while. An alternator will not charge a totally dead battery so you have to allow it some time to get some charge. T
