Recomendation of quality socket set/tools in general?
|
|
|
I'm not sure if this is the right section, but was the one that I thought best fitted this subject. I'm after some good quality tools, a good socket set mainly and probably spanner set, I'm sick of my tools breaking, learnt my lesson not to buy cheap tools. Sockets either dis-shape after a few days working on a car, or spanners bending. I'm willing to pay some good money for some good strengthen tools. Any suggestions? I live in New Zealand if that means anything.

curtains; Most of us professionals use Snap-On or Mac tools..There is nothing wrong with Craftsman (Sears) either when it comes to end wrenches or ratchets. But, Snap-On makes the best sockets. Don't know if any of those are available in NZ? Loren SW Washington

I agree with Loren. If you are doing this for a living go with Snap On. If this is just for home use Sears Craftsman is very good quality and I have never had a hassle get any hand tool warrantied.

I third the nomination for Snap-On when it comes to sockets and wrenches. If you use Craftsman for screwdrivers and pliers, is also a good choice. I have used cheap sockets, and when you have to break a frozen bolt free, when the socket breaks and you're on your way to the hospital for stitches, that's when you say "some bargain that was". lol Steve

<Do they have that stuff in New Zealand> Not sure, but they have A LOT OF SHEEP! One of the few places in the world where you can stand on the sunny beach and look up at the snow covered mountains. A beautiful country! Loren SW Washington

I could only find Snap-On tools in NZ, and wow they are really expensive, alot more expensive than what I thought expensive was haha, ok there a bit outa my price range. couldn't find craftsman or mac tools in New Zealand. Anyone heard or used 'Ampro' tools? they any good? And these tools will just be used for home use, not commercial. Thanks,

Yes S/O is expensive but hands down the best quality tool there is. Still fun trying explain to the wife why you just spent $100 on a 3/8 rachet or 3k on a scanner . I think the one think you need ask about is the warranty. Even S/O breaks but as long as the tool carries a lifetime warranty & the big thing... they don't hassle you about it, then it's worth giving it a shot, just stay away from the very cheap stuff. a $10 socket or wrench set is just that, a cheap set of tools. It's break the quickest & rounds a nut or bolt the quickest.

I have so many different brands it's nuts. For like use Harbor Freight and Northern I have had some good luck with and NZ shipping may wreck the bargain. Here Sears has some nice stuff. In my case - bet I have about 10 of everything for less than Snap-On which I won't by much of but they have about. Some other names I like..... Proto, Gearwrench, Cornwell, SK (hard to find now) Matco, Allen and a ton more. About all but the Chinese stuff is guarantee the company will be in biz so that ends that! What stinks is you can need a deep, and short six and 12 point of a ton of sockets as things get tighter to work on! Here at least you find sets missing 16 + 18MM sizes and the size is used! Gotta get those separately - it's a game! Tom

For that size Bluepoint tool set, that price is unbelievable. Unfortunately, in this economy I am seeing people who have lost jobs selling so much of their stuff just to pay bills for another month. It's sad this country has come to this. Steve
