The subject title pretty much sums it up. Specifically for U.S. vehicles.

Please just post once on the same subject - we'll see it wherever you post it. There are so many types and sizes of oil filters over decades of even just so called US vehicles I can't say which filter is even most common? Do you mean the threads of screw on types or you said "stud" that it screws on to? Why are you in need of doing what to one or more of those? T

Actually, I'm wondering if 13/16" diameter filter stud off block is pretty much the most common diameter.

?? I'll go measure a common Chevy right now with a Vernier Caliper. That still doesn't tell you the threads just the diameter of the threaded hole of a common filter. However there are just so dang many it's not really something I think much about rather that filter and threaded stud match exactly by threads & the diameter. Gotta give me a minute to do this I'll post back but totally wonder why you need to know and are you fixing these or what reason do you need to know? If you have a damaged one just state the exact vehicle and engine I think you'd replace the thing not fix it if that's what you are up to?? T

If you want to know that, go get an oil filter application catalog and look up the specs for every filter. That should keep you busy for a while. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Just measured inside hole of an oil filter. Bear with me, nobody ever asked and I don't think in close to 50 years needed to know! I got about (best I could do) 9/16th to 5/8th or 17mm to 18mm just now wasn't real clear. So if and this I've done with a wild assortment of drain plugs screw one in a filter if in question of an unknown find one that fits exactly if for some crazy reason a filter doesn't feel right and try another of the same see if there's a problem part it's never been the engine! Best I can do just haven't had problems such that I needed to deal with one - YET and hope never, Tom
