apparently, to control the fuel pump, the fuel pump control module (PEM on a volvo) takes a Pulse Width Modulation signal from the ECU as input and then drives the fuel pump in proportion to the duty cycle of the signal. As the fuel pump ages, it often takes a higher and higher duty cycle to maintain enough fuel pressure to keep the fuel pressure sensor happy. Is this PWM signal +12V? Is continuous operation of the pump engaged only at 100% duty cycle or instead at some lower percentage? is patching a continuous voltage (of, say 12V if that's the signal level) equivalent to a 100% duty cycle? Is doing so to operate the PEM and pump for purposes of emptying the tank through the fuel rail likely to damage either? 2012 Volvo S60 T5

Happy New Year: What on Earth are you trying to do here - destroy this car? You will. Leave it OE. If you just want to empty fuel tank find another way, suction out what you can and drop the tank, T

DEFINATELY NOT! That pump is capable of pressures up to 100PSI. It uses PWM as to vary the pressure to specific circumstances. The system has a fuel pressure sensor on the fuel rail and calculates the required pressure instantaneously from things like temp, acceleration, 0/2 readings, engine load and numerous other factors. I have never heard a worse idea. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Grinder - the worst of cars (this isn't at all) jump all kinds of hurdles to make the thing and work properly. MPG, low emissions and all safety concerns. So what flipping web something made you think you could improve it? Whole companies fail your chances aren't as high as that altering it and make an improvement, T (POINT = THE WEB IS FULL OF BS DON'T TRUST IT)
