1930 pontiac distributor removal Sign In

i have a 1930 pontiac with a flathead six. car has set for a few years. cant get the distributor to come out of the motor it will move up about a half inch and just stops everything is loose and looks like it should just pull out. any suggestions?

It's probably just stuck in varnish and corrosion. Use some penetrating oil around the base and just keep working it back and forth until it frees up.

As HT said some penetrating oil works good, I'd suggest PB blaster. Also what I've used on ones with a lot of sludge build up is a small ladyfoot pry bar. I get the end under the base and gently pry up, as it comes up more & more I keep spraying PB, push it back down and then pry up some more. It'll eventually come out...

Now this is way older than anything I've worked on so I am assuming there is nothing else holding it in there.........If this was a chevette, then it would be the fuel pump cam holding it in because that's what runs the fuel pumps on those......(don't ask me how I know that)
